Why choose an eyebrow transplant?

Patchy, thin eyebrows is a very common problem for many people. In women, often the brows have become overplucked and no longer grow hair. In men, asymmetrical or sparse brows can take away from the eyes. While some individuals turn to makeup or cosmetic tattooing, others feel that they would benefit more from a more natural-looking treatment that is permanent: an eyebrow transplant. An eyebrow transplant at Tseng Plastic Surgery takes entire hair follicles from the scalp, neck, or just above your ears and transplants it to the eyebrows. Once transplanted, new hair growth in the area can be expected over the course of a few months.

Eyebrow transplant treatment details

Before treatment, you will be given a numbing agent to help with any discomfort. Dr. Tseng will make tiny incisions at the scalp, neck, or just above the ears to collect entire hair follicles to transplant. One hair is removed at a time, and is then planted within more tiny incisions made in the eyebrows. Treatment time is approximately 2 to 5 hours.

It’s important to work with an experienced specialist for eyebrow transplants, as the procedure demands both an artistic eye and an understanding of natural hair “flow”. Arch, shape, and an organic-looking aesthetic are all important factors when performing an eyebrow transplant.

Recovery and results

There is very little recovery time from an eyebrow transplant, but you may experience some scabbing around your brows for a few days following the procedure. Be sure to avoid touching these scabs. If there is any bleeding, swelling, or pus around the treated area, please contact our office to let us know.

It’s important for those who are considering an eyebrow transplant to understand that it’s a gradual process. When an eyebrow transplant is successful, patients usually see final results at about nine months. However, it’s also important to be aware that the new hairs may not survive at all. In general, about three weeks following an eyebrow transplant, the transplanted hairs fall out. If the new hair follicles have survived, brand-new eyebrow hairs will start growing over the next several months.
